HOW I WORK WITH LEADERS
As a Certified Executive Coach in Marshall Goldsmith’s Stakeholder-Centered Coaching® (SCC), I am retained by forward-thinking organizations that know investing in one-on-one coaching for leaders impacts bottom-line results. They retain me to help successful leaders and their teams achieve measurable changes in targeted leadership skills and behaviors. Stakeholders in SCC report these changes are sustained, as well as recognized and acknowledged by others within the organization. This model is distinct from other executive coaching approaches in that it guarantees measurable leadership growth or I forgo significant coaching fees! The following steps, efficiently deployed over a 12-month period, produce results:
1: The Client, in partnership with me and their direct leader, identifies a group of internal Stakeholders who they want as partners in the coaching process(5 to 15 people). If the Client is the CEO, they invite select Board Members and/or key external Stakeholders. The Stakeholders support the Client in identifying no more than two leadership growth areas to focus on enhancing. We then create a custom Action Plan to implement over the next 12 months. 2: The Client and I prepare Stakeholders upfront to effectively serve as active participants in a simple, elegant process that requires minimal time and optimizes measurable results in target growth areas. The process safeguards confidentiality and ensures accountability, while the Client retains control of pacing and outcomes at all times.
3: Stakeholders provide monthly qualitative assessments, allowing for real-time, actionable input on observed behavior changes.
4: Mini-Surveys—2 to 3 conducted every four to six months—with customized success criteria and quantifiable metrics completed by all participants to track improvements in target growth areas.
5: At the end of the engagement, the Client completes a comprehensive After Action Assessment documenting progress made and insights gained, which is shared with Stakeholders.
The beauty of this process is that Stakeholders, as they engage to contribute to the Client’s development, enhance their own skills—especially deep listening, inspiring trust and accountability, and providing actionable, positive feedback. The Return on Investment cascades through the organization, positively impacting culture and bottom-line results.
Who in your organization will benefit from working with me?
C-Suite & VP Level leaders - invest in ensuring those at the helm have all the tools and support they need to successfully navigate the increasingly complex, volatile, and sometimes conflict-ridden corporate, legal, and social landscape we face today. Clients at this level have shared with me that they especially value my own leadership experiences across various functions and industries—as well as the tested consulting and advisory skills I bring to the table.
Upskilling for the next level - invest in leaders who are ready for more responsibilities, and eager to commit to a deep developmental dive with a trusted guide. Also invest in individual contributors who wow you with their technical mastery and/or creative talent, yet have opportunities to enhance essential leadership skills such as emotional intelligence, effective communication, conflict management, and/or converting strategic plans into effective and timely team execution.
New leaders; new roles - whether hired externally or promoted from within. Partnering with an experienced Executive Coach with the right mix of business and coaching credentials can significantly accelerate how a new leader acclimates to, diagnoses, and negotiates the organizational (design), strategic-vs-operational, and cultural dynamics of their new environment.
Situational challenges - individuals with an exceptional track record who face serious, unexpected personal challenges that compromise how they show up at work. A coaching engagement that combines deep empathy, structured problem solving, focused goal-setting, and compassionate accountability can dramatically shorten the time it takes to bounce back with greater emotional intelligence, grit, and resilience.
Additional coaching tools & resources
Beyond the MGSCC coaching structure, I use a variety of assessments and tools selected based on the Client’s goals and preferences. Additionally, the following are a standard part of every client engagement, providing the secret sauce that makes working with me unique:
The foundation of my coaching is best described as lived core values. I help clients and organizations identify their own unique set of values—those characteristics that truly define the essence of who they are. We then quantify and track alignment between core values and day-to-day behaviors. The result is a clear and powerful roadmap to living life as the best possible version of yourself, at home and at work.
Consistent with training received from the Institute for Professional Excellence in Coaching (iPEC), I use the Core Energy Coaching™ model, which enables significant shifts in a client’s thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and actions so they can experience and measure results in any area of life they target.
I use the Asana platform, customized for each engagement, as we set and track Action Plans, monthly Stakeholder follow-ups, quarterly Mini Surveys, communicate progress in between sessions, and share resources.
My executive coaching clients have access to my Life & Career Design Clients Only portal. While in the professional arena the work Clients take on is always in partnership with selected organizational Stakeholders—mine is a holistic coaching approach. As with most leaders experiencing executive coaching with any highly skilled coach, personal values and realities will always play a part at the leadership coaching table: often how we do one thing is how we do everything. Clients Only portal access includes free and accessibly-priced workshops, events, and other resources.
